The amateur championships concluded today at Lancaster Park, The weather was beautiful, a bright sunny sky and gentle north east wind, making matters extremely pleasant for spectators and competitors. Fully SCOJ people were on the ground. The track was in capital order, as the times put. up show. Hempton, after winning his heat in the ICO yards ran right out in the final, beating the second man by 5 yards, and running the distance in 9 4-sth see., which equals the New Zealand record Cuff being hors de-combat after his accident in the hurdles yesterday, Upfill won the long jump with a moderate Lap from Postlethwaite. The quarter mile produced a grand fir ?h between P. Wood, Grierson and Low. Hutchinson, of Auckland, cf whom great things were expected, was the very first beaten, and Wood lasted long enough to beat Grierson by two yards, Low only 6 inches behind. The half mile champion, D. Wood, had an easy victory in the 3 mile fiat, and Batger compensated for his flukey defeat in the 120yds hurdles on the first day by winning the 440yds hurdles wiih the greatest case from Moir, Daring the afternoon Batger made an effort to break the 120yds hurdle record. After two failures, in both of which he fell, be ultimately covered the distance in 16.ee., which will in future constitute the New Zea land record. Barton turned the tables on Cooks in the 1 mile walk, easily defeating his first day’s conqueror by 10 yards. Kerr ran right away from hia field in the 6 mile safety bicycle race, and the 25-mile bicycle race was a mere procession, the little Sydney man winning just as he pleased. Willmot showed all his old dash in the 1 mile ordinary bicycle, winning with the greatest ease, but could not stay the distance in the 5-mile ordinary, and Kingston won very easily at the finish. West pnt up a New Zealand record in the pole jump, beating last year’s champion in Upfill, but O’Connor made amends for bis olub-mate’s defeat by winning putting the stone. Canterbury takes the champion banner for most points for a second time sirce the inauguration.

This order was maintained until the commencement of the laet lap, when Kingston went right through, and drawing away in the last \ mile won easily by 40 yards from Willmot, who was 10 yards ahead of Wilson.
