DUNEDIN SHOW.
(By Telegraph.)
DUNEDIN, Nov. 25.
Fine weather was experienced for the Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s show to-day, but as the day was devoted to judging not a groat many attended. The quality of the stock exhibited was Very good, but the decrease In the entries, and the absence of a number of Oamaru and Christchurch breeders who usually exhibit, detracted somewhat from the interest. Messrs Dean, Oarfortb, Menlovo, Reid, and many others were conspicuous by their absence in classes where they usually show. In cattle, polled Angus and Ayrshires were well represented, and the quality was excellent, but in shorthorns there was a large falling off in the exhibits, and the quality was fair. The New Zealand and Australian Land Company took both championships in shorthorns, and for a bull
in polled Angus, Mr Wallis, of Southland taking it for a cow. Messrs A. and J. MoFarlane took the championship for a cow, and Mr Cowan took it for a bull. Dairy and fat cattle were few in number, the latter though smaller in size were deemed to be quite equal in [quality to former years. Mr Clark, of Timaru, took the prize for fat cat tie. In sheep, there was also a falling off in number, but the quality was fully maintained. In merinos, there wore no strong comb ing shown, Messrs Watson and Bheonan took the championship for a ram, and Mr John Johnson for a ewe. In Leicesters Mr John Reid, of Elderslie, took the championship for a ram, and Mr McCrosbie, of Southland for a ewe,[these with the Hon. M. Holmes, and Messrs Little Bros, being the chief prizetakers. Some splendid Lincolns were shown, but tho New Zealand and Australian Land Company and the Hon, M. Holmes were the only exhibitors,- the former taking both championebipa. In Romney Marsh Mr James Fulton took tho championship for a ram, and Mr John Reid for a ewe. The Hon. M. Holmes obtained several seconds. No down sheep were entered for competition, but some Shropshire Downs shown by Mr William Dobie were highly commended. The Hon. M. Holmes was the only exhibitor in Cheviots, taking two firsts. Two pens of fat sheep were entered by tho Land Company, each taking a first award. There was a splendid show of implements.
