The Ministry has resigned, and Mr Mnnro, leader of the Opposition, has been summoned to form a new Government.. Thirty-six members who voted with the late Government have resolved to form a united Opposition party under the leadership of Messrs Gillies and Donkin, STEAMER OVERDUE.
Some uneasiness is felt for the safety of a steamer which left Japan for Melbourne shortly after the Alberta, with a cargo of coal. She is now a week overdue.

The weather bureau forecasts heavy weather from between north-west and west and south, and between Hobart and Foveaux Straits ; variable between North Cape of New Zealand and New Caledonia.
