The s.s. Brunner arrived this morning from West Coast and Lyttelton with half cargo of coal, and 30 tons of merchandise. The s.s. Elderslie arrived this morning from London via Australian ports. She brings 60 to 70 tons machinery for the enlarged freezing 'works, and takes hence 6500 carcases of mutton, and a quantity of wool and flax. The Elderslie is fortunate as usual in dropping in when there is no roll on outside or range within, to speak of, this luck being the more noticeable after the long spell of rough sea weather we have had. The steamer this time is a greater attraction to the wharf than ordinary, one reason being the use of the extended Samson crane in discharging heavy pieces of machinery, the charred and blistered condition of her cabins after tho fire off West Australia. The amount of damage done will require very expensive repairs practically new cabins when she reaches Horae.
