THIS PAY. (Per Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) (Per Press Association.) (Received 1 p.m., July 15th.) THE MANAPOURI. Sydney, July 15. Arrived—Manaponrl from Auckland. FORESTRY. Mr J. E. Brown, formerly conservator of forests in South Australia, has entered on similar duties in New South Wales, and is organising a Forestry Department. THE GERMAN WARSHIPS. The German warships Alexandrine and Sperber have sailed for the China and South Pacific stations respectively. The German squadron will rendezvous here at the end of August. ALLEGED CRIMINAL PRACTICES. Enquiries are being made by the Minister of Instruction into the charges of criminal conduct alleged to have been committed by the boys on board the training ship Yernon. Up to the present it has been shown that the allegations are groundless.
THE MAMAEI. Melbourne, July 15. • The a. 3. Maraari, which put in here with three blades of her propellor carried away, haa resumed her voyage to New Zealand. THE UNEMPLOYED. The unemployed continue to hold demonstrations. The Salvation Army are endeavouring to find employment for some of those out of work and have over 1500 names on their books. Up to the present the Army has distributed 1200 meals. MILITARY TOURNAMENT. The Naval and Military Club has decided to hold a Naval and Military tournament at the exhibition buildings about the middle of November. The tournament is to bo open to the forces of the British empire. THE CABLES. Adelaide, July 15. The repairing steamer is expected to reach the break to-day. The cable may possibly have been embedded by volcanic action in which case some time must elapse before it can be repaired. OBITUARY. Hobart, July 15, Mr Hogg, Principal of the Collegiate Institute. The deceased gentleman was a prominent Mason. ' Arthur Peake, recently deceased, has bequeathed a sum of £35,00Q for scholarships for the promotion of painting, sculpture and astronomy at the universities at Hobart, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Brisbane.
