The Labour Programme.

The [Evening Press has an article on the political programme lately set forth by Mr Millar, of the Maritime Council. The article begins thus “We are sorry to see that Mr Millar has put out a political programme for the labour party. He will pardon us for saying that it has far too much the flavour, of a recent manifesto from an inexperienced Dunedin politician. We are not about to discuss the platform that Mr Millar proposes. Wo would only point out that it is one on which-the Liberal party cannot possibly unite, and which announces departures that no prudent statesman could accept. If a great battle is to be fought for reform and progress, surely the generals of the army should be consulted, If every ' officer and every soldier in the ranks is to issue a separate plan of campaign, thorp can be nfHpoubt as to the disasters that will ensue. We hope that the trades unions who have been invited to express their opinion will refrain from binding themselves to any part of this platform, and will proceed with the utmost prudence and caution. We are astonished that Mr Millar, who has in the discharge of his own particular duties displayed so much prudence and moderation, should have been induced to act with such rashness and imprudence in thus stepping out of his real functions to formulate a political platform. He will excuse us for this frank rqmon* strause.’ 1
