The London Tablet has just celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of its foundation. It is significant (says a Home paper) of the benefits conferred by converts on Homan Catholic journalism, asjon other departments of Roman Catholic literature in England, that the Tablet was founded in 1840 by Mr Frederick Lucas, M.P., an ex-quaker, and the Weekly Register nine years later, by Mr Henry Wilberforce, an ex- Anglican; also that, until the present editorship, not one of the editors of the Tablet was born a Roman Catholic. HE LOST HIS BET. Mr 8. Huggit, No. 18, Eagle street, London, writes: “Some time ago my wife was suffering terribly from neuralgia in her face. We tried almost everything to stop the pain, but could not succeed in doing so, until one of my neighbours said, 1 Get St. Jacobs oil, and a pound to a penny it will cure the pain in ten minutes.’ I took the bet but lost the penny. The first application eased her at once ; the pain stopped ; my wife smiled and I was a happy man.” LET THE OAT OUT. Aunt: “How did you come to get so tanned ?” Waitee (very much sunburnt) : “ That’s real mean, Auntie. You know I got tanned ’cos I played hookey and went fishin’; but ma promised not to tell anybody if I would be a good boy. There ain’t no use trying to be good. If Pop had bought mo a Waterbury I wouldn’t be kep’ in for being late.” r i he Genuine Waterbury may be obtained from any respectable storekeeperprice, Series B, 13s fid; Series Tor L, 20s. [9
