Obituary

AUCKLAND, June 17. Mr Samuel Jagger, the well known brewer, died to-day.

The Licensing Law-

The City East licensing committee granted the license of the Occidental Hotel, though they announced a fortnight ago that they had decided to close the house on the ground that it was not required. Political A number of Auckland members left Manukau to day in the Takapuna for Wellington. Wild Sheep in MarlboroughWELLINGTON, Mat 17. Mr T. G. Richardson, Sheep Inspector for Marlborough district, has forwarded a report to the Stock Department, in which he states that all the wild sheep hunters were diecbarged at the end of May with one exception. Since September last 1209 wild sheep were killed. Of these 864 were unmarked, and of the others 274 bore the mark of J. Kerr. None of the sheep killed showed any signs of scab, which he considers clear proof that there are no scabby sheep in the bush. He adds that he has not seen any scab since last September, and should it be found in any flock now he is certain that the bush sheep will not be the cause, but it will be through mustering and bad dipping of sheep by sheep owners.

j Is it Leprosy ? ' The Native Department have received a telegram from Mr Bishop, R.M. at Hokianga, stating there are two or three oases of some loathsomo disease among the Maoris at Herekino, but whether it is leprosy or not he cannot say. Fatal Spill. CHRISTCHURCH, June 17. James Gray, a farmer at Eyreton, was thrown from bis trap on Saturday, and died to day from concussion of the spine. Criminal libel. DUNEDIN, Jure 17. An interesting action for criminal libel engages Mr Oarew’s attention next week.
