r The following 1 are. the Customs returns for Timarn for the month ended April 30th, 1390

(By' Telegraph.) i ADDINGTOI/ LIVE STOCK MARKET, j CHRISTCHURCH, April 30. There was a good attendance at Addington to«day, and the market was brisk. SHEEP, There were leas stores than usual, only about 2000 being yarded. Nearly all were sold at advanced rates. Sound-mouthed merino ewes realised 3s 6d, store lambs from merino wethers in good forward condition 7s, while a few lines of crossbred ewes fetched from 6s to 9s. A nice line of 2-tooth crossbred wethers fetched lls 9d to lls lOd. There was si very fair entry of fat lambs, a good many of which were prime freezers, which sold at from 12s 6d to 14s 6d. Ordinary trade requirements were met with lambs, which sold at from 7s to 10s 6d. About 5500 fat sheep were yarded, of which there was a fair proportion of good quality mutton. There was not the eager demand by exporters that occurred last week, and in consequence there was a drop equal to about Is per head on best sheep, and up to Is Cd per head on inferior quality. The best price realised was 17s 9d in lien of 21s last week, hut there were no sheep in to compare, with these latter. Best wether mutton fetched fully per lb., and there were some pens which fetched a trifle above this. CATTLE. There was only a moderate entry of fat cattle, inferior quality beef, which dragged considerably- Of 156 yarded there were only about 30 steers, and these suffered a drop on last quotations, though they were in a minority. Beef realised from 12s to 17s 6d. There was a fair entry of store cattle, odd lots, chiefly dry cows and young stock, but there was an absence of good quality steers or heifers. In those lines there was a trifle more activity in the sale than was shown last week, and-most lines sold at low rates. Dairy cows in profit wore easily disposed of at fair rates, up to <£7 10s being given for good oows. PIGS. About 400 good sorts of pigs were yarded,o£ which three-fourths were ready for bacon, the remainder being porkers. Baooners fetched 2|d to 3jd, porkers np to 4£d. BURNSIDE MARKETS. DUNEDIN. April 30. CATTLE. At Burnside to-day, 203 _ head of fat cattle were yarded, mostly of indifferer quality, and enly a very few 'prime. • Buyers competed fairly actively for good quality-. For ordinary there was less demand. Best. bullocks brought £7 15s to d£B 15s, extra be avy a shade more, medium to good £5 5s t .o£7 12s 6d, lightweight and inferior quality £3 to <£s 2s 6d, COWS from <£2 7s 6d to £6 Is 6d. SHEEP. 4137 fat sheep were penned, including about 160 merino; wethers, medinm mutton, the balance crossbreds, both wethers and ewes of all qualities. The sales opened dull, but competition improved till towards the close, when the demand fell off, and prices were a good deal easier. There was a moderate demand for wether mutton fit for export. Best crossbred wethers 12a to 143 3d, ordinary to good 9a 3d to 12s 3d, best do ewes lls to 12s 3d, inferior to medinm 7s 3d to 10s 6d, merino wethers to 6s 3d. ■ GRAIN. Wheat—-A steady demand continues firm. The- quantity of really prime offering is, limited and slightly higher prices are being? asked afld obtained. Medinm is more difficult to place. ’ Fowls’ wheat is scarce, and prises show art upward tendency. Quotations are,— for prime Tuscan 3s 2d to 3s 3Jd, prime, hard velvet 3s to 3s 2d, best red wheat 3s, medium to good 2s 8d to 2s lOd, broken and inferior to medium 2s to 2s 7d, ex store, sacks weighed in. Oats.—The arrivals have been large, and mostly going into store. A slightly better demand has been experienced during the week, but the quantity disposed of is insignificant ’ considering the heavy consignments. There isnothing like the demand for export that existed at the same time during the last few seasons. With so many growers anxious to quit, the market quickly gave way, sellers ; finding it impossible to effect sales except at reduced prices, hut we think that the bottom ■has been reached, and scarcely think that any further reductions need be submitted to. Prime milling Is 4Jd to Is sd, best short bright feed Is 3id to Is 4d, medium la 2d to Is 3d (ex store, sacks extra). Barley.—The market continues very quiet. A few sales are being effected, but only of the , very best offering, at from 3s_to 3s 3d, any qthet having little or"no attention, ,
