A letter was read from Mr Thomas Priest, asking for the use of the schoolroom for a tea meeting on Good Friday. The request was granted. The resignation of the headmaster, Mr Angus Marshall, was received, and applications for the appointment of headmaster were received from the Board of Education. The committee resolved to recommend that Mr Henry Erskine Goodeve be appointed, and that Miss Amy E. Evans bo nominated as first pupil teacher. Miss Evans has been locum lenens since Ist February. A large and representative meeting assembled in the Presbyterian Church, Geraldine, on Monday evening to elect a successor to the Rev. George Barclay. The congregation had heard a number of candidates, any one of whom, it was remarked, would bo a satisfactory minister, but the selection really lay between the Rev. A. B. Todd, 8.A., aud the Rev. J. E. Archibald, M.A. A considerable section seemed to be in. favour of the Rev. Mr Stewart, but ho was ruled by the moderator, the Rev. J. Dickson, M.A.., to be ineligible, as he had not yet received his license to preach. Some were inclined to wait until such time as Mr Stewart should be in a position to accept a call. The majority of the meeting, however, decided to go on with the business, and on this being announced a considerable number left the meeting. The vote was then taken between Messrs Todd and Archibald, with the result that the former was elected by a large majority. By the rules of the Presbyterian Church a good deal of formality has yet to take place before the minister-elect is installed, but it may be taken for granted that Mr Todd, who seems to be a young man of much promise, will be the Rev. Mr Barclay’s successor. Certainly the best medicine known is Sandbs and Sons’ Eucalypti Extract. Test its eminently powerful effects in coughs, colds, influenza ; the relief is instantaneous.
