(Received 9.35 p.m., Oct. 29th.) THE MELBOURNE CUP.

Twenty-four horses have paid up for the Melbourne Cup as follows : —Carbine, Melos, Cardigan, Bravo, Lonsdale, Oakleigh, Pakeha, Chicago, Chaldean, Benzon, Chetwnyd, Rudolph, Richelieu, Knight of the Garter, Antaeus, Carrington, Duukeld, Savanak, Menotti, Singapore, Finlander, Prince Consort, Bluenose, and Sequel, BETTING NOTES. In consequence of his having defeated Benzon in a mile and a half in 2min 47sec, 'at Caulfield this morning, Dunkeld has been backed down to 7 to 1 for the Victoria Racing Club’s Derby. Carbine and Melos are equal favourites for the Cup at 100 to 10 each. Other quotations are—loo to 8 against Singapore, Lonsdale, Benzon, Antaeus, Chicago, and Cardigan.
