CHRISTCHURCH COEN EXCHANGE. The following is the Christchurch Corn Exchange report for the week ending Friday, June 7th, 1889 • Grain and produce business during the week has been of a very limited character. The Sydney market for both wheat and potatoes shows a decline on previous week’s values, and the spurt in the Melbourne oat market has but slightly affected this market. At present Victoria is drawing her supplies from Dunedin and the Bluff, while there is a better inclination among buyers to do business. _ Prices have not altered. Barley is again dull, although but few samples of prime are offering, Cocksfoot has a fair enquiry for really prime heavy seed ; the bulk of the seed is out of growers’ hands. Ryegrass, on the other hand, is exceedingly quiet. Dairy produce remains dull. We fear that we shall again have to look to London for our main outlet, as Sydney appears completely glutted. Factorymade now is the only kind of New Zealand that finds any sale at all with our neighbours. The shipping requirements appear to he plenty for the Sydney markets, and for London there is abundance of freight offering at 255. The deliveries are steadily falling away except potatoes, which just now are coming to hand very fast. Our week’s quotations are as follows : WHEAT. Prime Tuscan 3s 8d to 8s 9d, Hunters’ and pearl 3s 4d to 3s sd, medium 3s, broken wheat 2s fid to 2s 9d. OATS. Prime milling 2s lOd, short stout feed 2s 8d to 2s 9d, inferior and long 2s 5d to 2s 7d. Machine dressed 3s 9d to 3s lOd, farmers’ lines 2s 9d to 3s 3d, nominally. Cocksfoot—Prime bright heavy seed 2fd to 3d, second quality 2d to 2£d. POTATOES. Potatoes 50s to 52s fid at country stations. DAIRY PRODUCE. Butter 7d to 8d for prime, inferior 3d to 4d. Cheese, prime small, 3|d, large and medium 3id. Messrs J. Williams, J. Pye, and J. Cunningham took part in the discussion, and ultimately it was decided to hold a meeting shortly fer the purpose in the Oddfellows’ Hall. The chairman stated that General Strange, who had recently arrived in the district from America, had informed him that there was a splendid market for fruit in Canada, and he (the chairman) suggested that General Strange should be invited to be present at the public meeting, should he be in the district at the date on which it was to be held. The secretary rend a letter inserted in the New Zealand Farmer, written by Mr J, Pye, on the small birds nuisance, Mr Cunningham suggested that boys should obtain
