He Tried to Get Out.
An amusing incident has just taken place in Cheshire. A young yeoman had pledged his troth to a charming lady living in the neighbourhood, and the two were to have been united in wedlock, when the young gentleman’s mother was apprised of the arrangement. Expostulations being useless, she determined to try a practical remedy, and when the expectant bridegroom essayed to leave his bedroom on what should have been his wedding morning he found the door locked and the window securely fastened. Meantime, the rustic Juliet proceeded to the altar, only to discover that Romeo was not there. Love, however, laughs at locksmiths, and next day the imprisoned farmer made his escape ; hut the ceremony had of necessity to be postponed for a week owing to the bumps and bruises received by'the wretched man in his efforts to escape from his prison. And although not in what may be described as a condition of actual fitness at the end of that time, still, thanks to the wonderful virtues of the world-renowned St. Jacob’s oil, he was sufficiently presentable to put a termination to the suspense and wretchednes which was eating into the hearts of both. Another victory for the universal saint.
THE PROBABILITY OP WAS is happily a remote one. The reason is obvious. The Waterbary Watches the world. The Waterbury is a triumph of peace.
