(Pan Eusotrio Telegraph—OopvßiauT.) (Per Press Association.) (Received 3 p.m., May 28th.) CONTEMPT OF COURT. Melbourne, May 28. Daly, a solicitor, has been fined £25 and a month’s imprisonment for contempt of court for writing to the Press commenting on the Cutler perjury case.
THE AH FOY APPEAL CASE. Tt is probable that Ah Foy’s case will not be defended before the Privy Council, plaintiff being without means, He has asked the Government to vote the necessary sum towards the cost of hearing as the case is of national importance, but the request was refused. INDIAN WHEAT.
Wheat is quiet. The Indian shipment, ex Bothwell Castle, is not selling, as few millers care to touch it, there being no machinery here to clean it.
(Received 1.30 a.m., May 29th.) PARDONED. Sydney, May 28, The man Buttern, who was sentenced to death for criminal assault, and afterwards had the penalty commuted to imprisonment for life on account of the woman confessing that she had encouraged him, has been released from gaol.
