(Per Press Association.) (Received 12.40a.m., May 25th.) THE HOLIDAY IN SYDNEY, Sydney, May 24. The weather for the holiday to-day was most miserable, being wet and very cold. QUEENSLAND’S NAVY. Beisbanb, May 24. Government have received a despatch from Lord Knutsford in which the Secretary of State for the Colonics upholds the action of Bis Excellency the Governor in dismissing Commander Wright, R.N., of the Queensland gunboat Gayundah, for refusing in October last to hand over the gunboat to the Queensland authorities.
HEAVY RAINS. Melbourne, May 24. Heavy rains have fallen, and large tracts of country between Nuimikah and Yarrawonga, on the Murray river, are flooded. Much damage ha l ! been done to the newly-sown crops. (Received 1.30 a.m., May 25th.) FOOTBALL. The New Zealand football team played a match to-day against the Victorian Rugby Union, winning by 4 goals and 2 tries to 2 goals.
