DISTRICT COURT.

TlMAßU—Thubsday, May 23ed, 1889. (Before His Honour Judge Ward ) A sitting of the District Court was held at H am. to-day. IN BANEETOXCY. Orders of discharge were grunted to the following bankrupts : T. McAuliffe and A. Wesley on the application of Mrßaymond ; to John Mcßobbie, on tho application of Mr White; to A. Targuse and R. Webster, on tho application of Mr Hay. Mr Bay asked for and was granted solicitor’s costs against the estates of A. Targuse and R. Webster. Be Alex. Maxwell. Mr Raymond appeared for tho bankrupt to ask for bis discharge, but Mr Knubloy, for the supervisors, opposed the application. Mr Raymond said the bankrupt was in Melbourne, and the discharge being opposed, ho must apply for an adjournment. Mr Knubley said he could have no objection to that to that; he wanted to see the bankrupt in the box. His Honor said : Very well, but if ho is in Melbourne, you are hardly likely to see him, Mr Raymond, for G. K. Askin, a proving creditor in the esfate of T. Askin, asked for costa against creditors who appealed against tho assignee’s acceptance of the claim, and had since withdrawn the notice of appeal.

His Honor said some costs should be granted, and then a long discussion took place as to what costs, whether of this appearance only, as contended by Mr White, who opposed tho application, or of several previous appearances, once with five witnesses, as claimed by Mr Raymond.—Costs allowed £5 ss. MXSCEIXANEOITS. In the matter of Bruce’s Patent Oatmeal and Milling Company, Limited, in liquidation. Mr Knubley as agent for Messrs Stewart and Holmes of Dunedin, solicitors for the petitioning creditors, asked for an adjournment of the applications for settlement of list of claims and of list of contributories. The list of contributories proposed was to be opposed and be bad arranged with the solicitors engaged to oppose, for an adjournment, and asked His Honor to fix on a day, as early as possible on which he could hear tho applications, such, however, that it would not clash with the Supreme Court at Dunedin, as Mr Stewart would be engaged at that court, and he wished to attend the hearing of this matter. The date was fixed for Juno 20th.

Mr Knubley said the case would probably take a whole day or a day and a half. The other solicitors present (Messrs White, Perry, Hay and Raymond) were engaged to oppose the list. His Honor remarked “We shall have a really lively time.”

In the matter of the Timaru Woollen Factory Company, Mr Raymond applied for an order (1) fixing the remuneration to be paid to the official liquidators, Messrs J. Jackson and C. S. Fraser; (2) directing the liquidators to pass accounts; and (3) directing payment of solicitors’ costs.—The order was granted, the liquidators’ remuneration being fixed at £25 each.

Probate of the will of the lata George Osborne,of Pareora, to the executors appointed, James P.apsey, senr., and Job Osborne, was granted on the application of Mr White. The court then adjourned to the 20lh of June.
