Entertainment at Geraldine.

On Monday evening last an entertainment and coffee supper was held in the Primitive Methodist Church, Geraldine, there being a large audience present. The Bev. G.Clement, newly appointed n mister to the station, presided. An innovation was made on this occasion in regard to the instrumentation, as besides the harmonium, wind and string instruments wore brought into requisition. The performers, it being the first time they had been brought together before the public, acquitted themselves most creditably. Mr Sherratl led the choir. The proceedings commenced with the sigingof hymn 84 (Sankey’e collection), "All people that on earth do dwell.” The chairman having made a few introductory remarks, the choir sang hymn 361, " Hark, hark, my soul." Tho following items composed tho programmeSolo, Miss Andrews, “ The anchored soul ”; quartette, Mrs Hiskens, Miss Hesketfc, Messrs Gibson and Logan, " The smiling and tho weeping ”; recitation, Mr T. Sherratt, “The new preacher; solo, Mrs Hiskens," Tho beautiful city ”; quartette. Misses E. Maslio, F. Gibson, E. Sherratt and Master W. Muslin, “ The children’s day; ” recitation, Miss Heskett, “ The little pilgrim j ” hymn, by the choir, “My Redeemersolo, Mr Logan, " Only to know; ’’ duet and solo, Mcsdames Logan and Hiskens,j" Give me the wings of faith; ” recitation, Miss Hawke, “ Tho old clock on tho stairs; ” solo, Mrs Logan, “ Hiding in Thee.” After an interval of ten minutes, during which refreshments were handed round by the ladies of the congregation, the second part of the entertainment commenced with “ By tho gate they’ll meet us,” by the choir ; duet, Mieses Andrews and Heakett, “The Master astir in His garden; ” recitation, Miss E. Maslin, "We all might do good ; ” quintette, Mrs Logan, Miss Andrews, Messrs Logan, Andrews and Baker, “ Turning of the wheels of time j ” solo, Miss E. Gibson, “ Little Mary; ” recitation, Mrs Logan, “King David’s lament for Absolom ; ” reading, Mr Baker, “Of groat price ; ” quartette, Miss E. Maslin, B. bberratt, P. Gibson and Master W. Maslin, “Sing it from the heart; ” solo, Mrs Hiskens, “ How far is it called to tho grave; ” recitation, Mr Baker, " The brazen serpentduet, Mesdames Logan and Hiskens, “ For me ; ” quartette, Mrs Hiskens, Miss Andrews, Messrs Gibson, Logan, and Andrews, “ By and-bye.” Mrs Hiskens, and Misses Heskctt and Andrews, and Mr T. Sherratt, accompanied the singers on the harmonium during the evening. The usual votes of thanks having been duly proposed by the chairman, seconded by Mr R. Hammond, and carried by acclamation, the audience were dismissed by the choir singing, “ Christians, good night,” and the pronouncing of the Benediction by the Rev. G. Clement. Thus ended one of a series of what promises to be most enjoyable winter evenings’ entertainment, under the auspices of the members of the Primitive Methodist Church at Geraldine.
