THE SUGAR CONVENTION BILL, London, May 13.
The Government have postponed the Sugar Convention Bill until Whitsuntide, and in the meantime have undertaken to consider its provisions. THE VICE ROYALTY OF IRELAND, They have also agreed to consider the question of a royal Prince being appointed Viceroy of Ireland. ARISTOCRATIC GAMBLERS. In connection with tho raid mado on a fashionable- baccarat club in Park Place,
an attempt will bo made to prove that Lords Dudley and Lurgan were only occasional visitors. It is asserted that Lord Dudley lost £SOOO and Lord Lurgan £2OOO. The club in which baccarat is played has proved the ruin of many young men of fashion, and young Benson, the plunger, was ruined there. Seaton, the proprietor of this gaming saloon, is well known and is a noted gamester, and the same may be said of Davis, an equally well known money lender, who supplied ready money to young men on post obits. The raid by the police was made on the application of Lord Bateman, owing to the heavy losses of his son, the Hon. Captain William Spencer Bateman Ilanbury.

The Italian Government will agree to recognise King Mcnolek as Negus of Abyssinia, providing that the English Government is willing to do so.
THE WESTPHALIAN COLLIERY
STRIKE,
Berlin, May 13
The Westphalia colliers stubbornly refuse to agree to the conditions of the masters, who aro. willing to give an increase of wages, but the men hold out for the eight hours’ system. The strike has resulted in a large number of furnaces at various works being extinguished. The Emperor William will receive a deputation from the colliers in a day or two. The strike fever is affecting artisans throughout Germany. DR CRONIN. Chicago, May 13. Dr Cronin, who was reported to have been murdered, has turned up safely in Toronto. He asserts that ho fled from here to avoid the vengeance of the Clan-na-Gael Society. (Special to tue Press Association.) (Eooeivod 1 p.m.. May 14th.) ARREST OF GAMBLERS. London, May 13. The gamblers arrested in Park Place were bailed out, but those captured at the Adelphi Club were not. A QUEER SERENADE. Messrs O’Brien and Harrington, dressed in their prison clothes, were serenaded by a number of admirers. COLLIERY STRIKE. Berlin, May 13, Forty-two colliers at Essen have struck. THE ARMENIAN ATROCITIES. Constantinople, May 13. The Porte is enquiring into the alleged atrocities -in Armenia. The Tui'kish authorities assert that they have been greatly exaggerated.
