NEWS OF THE DAY.

Yesterday, at the Temulca Resident Magistrates Court, before 0. A. Wray, Esq., 8.M., Eli Mitchell was fined 10s for beeping an unregistered dog. Judgment by default was given in Hayes v. Eaul, claim £2 7s fid, and in Letheridge v. Graham Looker, claim £2. Thomas McNair, who had been brought up at the Resident Magistrates Court at Waimate, on u charge of lunacy, and remanded to the hospital for medical treatment, was again brought before the magistrates on Saturday morning and committed to Sunnyside Asylum. A meeting of the Waimate Cemetery Board was held on Friday last. There were present—Messrs Forsbroob, Wall, and Graham, In the absence of the chairman, Mr Forsbrook was moved to the chair. The secretary informed the meeting that the balance-sheet for the year ending the 31st December, 1888, had been audited by Mr G. M. Ross, and duly forwarded to the Colonial Secretary. The balance-sheet showed a credit of £l9. It was resolved that tenders be called for cleaning the paths and trimming the hedges, etc., during the year ending 17th June, 1890, the tenders to be in in time for consideration at the board’s next regular meeting on the 7th June. As the present contract for cleaning will expire on the 20th inst. it was resolved that any necessary cleaning required between the expiration of the present contract and the commencement of the next contract on the 7th June next.be carried out under direction of Messrs Forsbrook and Wall. Mr Wall informed the board that he had ordered two additional seats for the cemetery, and that they were being made. Accounts amounting to £3 2s were passed for payment. The secretary was instructed to thank Mr Ross for his prompt attention in auditing the accounts when asked to do so. The board then rose.
