Mr E. E. Guinness, for the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Limited), reports for the week ended Saturday, Jan, 19th, as follows : WASHDTKE TAKES. Eat Cattle—Small entries have been received with a poor demand, caused by butchers preferring to obtain their supplies privately outside. We quote beef from 15s to 17s per lOOlbs with a downward tendency. Stores—This class of stock is very low with only a moderate number offering. Sheep— During the last fortnight entries at these yards have been very small, with an average attendance of buyers, many of whom could not procure their requirements. We sold 160 4-tooth crossbred wethers in forward condition at 9s 6d, other transactions being fat crossbred ewes 8s 9d to 9s. PLEASANT POINT. An average supply of sheep and cattle came forward. There was a good muster of farmers, and we succeeded in disposing of the whole of our entry as follows : —2OO small 2-tooth crossbreds at 7s 6d, 30 fat half-bred ewes at 7s 9d, 65 half-bred 2-tooths 7s 9d, 112 crossbred 2-tooth wethers at 9s 2d, also a small line of 18-month-old cattle at <£2, and milch cows at £A. MAKIKIHI SALE. At this fixture there was only a moderate entry of stock. We sold fat merino wethers at 7s, crossbred ewes made 6s to 6s 6d, old merino ewes 2s 93. Cattle —We sold fat heifers at .£6 apiece. PRIVATE SALES OP SHEEP. We have sold 1200 merino wethers, 300 halfbred 2-tooths, and 153 fat crossbreds all at current rates, and have transactions similar to the above pending. SHEEPSKINS. At the usual fortnightly sale there was only a small attendance of buyers, and light catalogues were on offer, but prices were well maintained. Butchers’ crossbred pelts Is to Is 4d, woolley merinos 4s 9d to ss, do. crossbreds by the lb. 5Jd to 6d, factory pelts Is 4d to Is 9d. Privately and by auction we sold 1061. HIDES. There is no change in prices. We have disposed of all on hand at late quotations, viz., 601bs and over 3)d, 501bs to 591bs 3d, light and second quality 2Jd, cut and damaged lid per lb. PAT. A steady demand continues for all descriptions at the following prices, best clean rough 12s to 14s, second quality 9s 6d to 10s per cwt.
