MOUNT PEEL ROAD BOARD

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Board was held in the Road Board Office, Peel Forest, on Friday the 15th inst. MEMBEES PRESENT. The Hon. J. B. Aoland (Chairman), Messrs B. Mackay, G. J. Dennistoun, and R. Thew. A letter was read from Mr 0. G. Tripp requesting leave of absence from the meeting of the Board, which was granted. The following correspondence was read and considered : From the chief surveyor in reference to closing the surveyed road and opening a new road through Reserve 2195, stating that the road cannot be closed as it gives access to Government land. From the Commissioner of Property Tax forwarding form of declaration for balance of subsidy on rates under the Local Bodies Finance and Powers Act. The declaration was signed by the chairman and ordered to be returned to the Property Tax Office. From the proprietor of the Timaru Evening Mail soliciting a share of the Board’s advertising and printing. From Mr J. Anderson enclosing an account for repairs to Stouecrisher. The clerk was directed to refer the account to Mr Blair, as the work had been done to his order. From Mr R. Blackadder offering a price for the Stoucerisher which was accepted. From Mr J. Pye submitting a price list of forest trees. The overseer was directed to attend to the following works.—To repair the crossing at the Syrm river and protect the concrete groin with boulders ; to clear the cutting at Peel Forest; to inspect the road leading from the boundary road to Mr Tripps, and call tenders for gravelling it if necessary ; to pick off big stones from the side of the road adjoining Mr Shaw’s fences on the Orari Gorge Road.

The clerk reported that he bad seen Mr Flatman about the purchase of the abandoned road Peel Forest, but had not agreed with him as to the value.

The clerk was instructed to make out an account of the costs incurred in closing the road by next Board meeting. Resolved—“ That legal proceeding be taken for the recovery of all unpaid rates.”

After passing accounts to the amount of £SO 9s 4d the Board adjourned.
