(Received Oct. 26,1886, 1.16p.m.) Shipping Melbourne, Oct. 26. The Peninsula and Oriental Company’s Tasmania with the outward English mails, dated Sept. 17tb, arrived last night Postal Affairs. Mr Sutter, the Postmaster-General of New South Wales, has proposed a conference of delegates from the Governments of New South Wales, Victoria, and South Australia, to be held at Melbourne for the purpose of discussing postal service between the three colonies and the United Kingdom. A Big Nugget. A telegram has been received from the Magistrate at Wyndham stating that a 30oz nugget has been found on the Kimberley goldfields. The New Hebrides.
The “Argus” to-day publishes a communication from its correspondent at the New Hebrides, stating that road making is being carried on by the French troopa in those islands, and their entire proceedings point to the permanent occupation by Franco.
Thp Burmese Expedition.
Calcutta, Oct. 25.
Sir Frederick Roberts, who has been appointed to tbe command of the British forces in Burmab, has been accredited with special powers for the administration of affairs in that country.
