New Appointment* Wellington, Oct. 12. J. P. Me Alii* ter of tbe Justice Department Las been appointed to the vacant deputy registrarship of the Supreme Court at Dunedin.
Supposed Infanticide* Oamabu, Oct. 12.
The police have discovered tbe body o{ a child, about three weeks old, buried in a garden just outside tbe town. The police are reticent. An enquiry will be held to-morrow. The Steamer Wallabi. Grbymouth, Oct. 12. The ateamer Wallabi was taken ont o! the lagoon this morning and she now lies alongside the wharf as sound as when she went ashore. Fire. Christchurch, Oct. 12. Goss' sawmill was burned down last night. The insurances are:—Standard £650, half reinsured in the Victorian ; Colonial £360, National £5lO, half reinsured in tbe Pbcooix, London and Lancashire £IOO. Four cottages were insured in the Victorian for £SO each. They are damaged to the extent of £75. Goss will lose fully £IOOO over the insurance. In Distress Fort Chalmers, Oct. 12. At the Heads—Sierra Gollona, ship, from Bombay, bound to San Francisco, requiring medical assistance.
