DOWN WITH TORY GOVERNORS FROM THE BRITISH ARISTOCRACY.

fTO THE EDITOR.] Sjß,—lf I may again trespass on yonr generosity for space to ventilate the peoples cause, 1 will do so, and ask every man to examine for himself the question, How are we governed ? Is New Zealand governed by New Zealand for New Zealand. And he will find no vestige of such honest government remains. Had we retained this high privilege the colony could never have been in the depressed condition it now is. We are governed by the British Tory House of Lords whose existence has been a curse to England for ages past. This House of hereditary peers and nominees know their days are dwindling to the shortest span, and with an eye of concern they are intent on this colony as a recruiting ground for their sons and offshoots, and with this end we are governed. The beet bad oog in the wheel of our political destruction is the system of nominated Governors, We all know that personally our Governor is a gentleman worthy of the respect he commands, but it is equally true that all Governors are T or y» of the deepest dye, selected for ns and not by ns, and it is here our misfortunes begin. A governor is selected by the British Tory nobility of England, and provided with a carefully arranged portfolio, which in plain speaking is but a bag of policy tricks to shatter our Liberal constitution and pave the way for Tory Government by Right Divine to fatten on the industry of all ages to come. This costly official’s task is made easy by the Atkinson and VogelStout school, who, without shame or remorse, sacrifice the confidence of the electors to make way for a lazy, bloated English aristocracy, of whom thousands am in-waiting. Sir, onr governments are nothing more than political commission agents to the British nobility. Our rights, our liberties and our prosperity, are bought and sold and onr general depression made complete as a part of the policy to accommodate their politioalcontrivances. Our depression is not of necessity, it is artificially forced as a Conservative

policy and a pretext for borrowing and public works which will feed the rich and starve the people. Our Tory Governor’s agents, many of them devoid of principle, are rewarded by commissions in place, power, pay, pension, title, and other rewards taken from the industry of the people, and will ever remain so, nntil we stamp out Tory Governors and British nobility. Sir, I maintain that all who receive pay of the State should be elected by the State. If a Governor is a necessary figure-head of the ship of State, let us elect one of onr own choice, pay him fairly and if he fails to do his duty, dismiss him with a ticket of leave, not a pension. _ Our present system of governorship is a mockery and a sham, and a disgrace to the name of government of a free country and a civilised people,—l am, &c., G. Kijibeb.
