LICENSING COMMITTEES.

BAUKAPUKA. On Monday last the annual meeting of the Licensing Commissioners for the Eaukapnka district was held in the Courthouse, Geraldine. Present—Messrs Maslin (Chairman), Cook, Mundoll, A Sherratt, and Dr Fish. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The Chairman read the police report on the hotels within the jurisdiction of the Commissioners which was satisfactory in every instance. The following licenses were renewed; —Hotels, Geraldine Hotel (B. Taylor), Crown Hotel (Mrs Farrell for T. Farrell) Bush Hotel (D. Mcllrath). The above hotels were permitted to be kept open till 11 p.m. Accommodation houses, Hilton Hotel (T. Tindall), license fee £5 ; Woodbury Hotel (T, Dooley, fee £7 10s ; Star of the South Hotel, Eangitata, (T, Clayton), fee £6 ; Eangitata Bridge Hotel (J. J. Daily), fee reduced from £lO to £7 10s. Conditional licenses —For conditional licenses it was decided that the fee should remain as at present, viz.—£2 per day for race meetings and 5s for athletic sport meetings. The Chairman stated that the Inspector of police wished, as an act of courtesy to his representative in Geraldine, that all applications for conditional licenses should in future be forwarded to him so that he could report to the Chairman and any two of the Commissioners before such be granted. TEMUKA.

At the annual meeting of the Temuka Licensing Committee held on Monday, the members present were—Messrs S. D. Barker (Chairman), J. Talbot, J. Meyers, J. Paterson and D, In wood. A transfer of the license of the Spur Hotel, Waitohi, was granted to J. Woods.

A transfer of the license of the Eoyal Hotel was granted from P. Ooira to S. Burrows,

The licensee of the Crown Hotel (P. Bertie) having become bankrupt the license of the hotel was granted to the owner of the property, Mr Kirk. The Committee ordered that before nest licensing day better accommodation would have to be provided at the Royal and Crown Hotels, Renewals were granted to J, Angland, Star Hotel ; T, Storey, Wallingford Hotel ; B. J. W. Chamberlin, Temuka Hotel ;J. A. Young, Wolseley Hotel, Winchester; and to Mrs Swinton for the Winchester Hotel.

The Temuka hotel licenses were granted till 11 o’clock, and the outside houses till 10 o’clock.
