The Bank rate of discount is 2 per cent, and the market rate f.
The total reserve in notes and bullion in the Bank of England, is £18,400,000; being an increase of £500,000 during the week. The proportion of reserve to liabilities is at 52 percent. Adelaide wheat, -ex store, is quoted at 365, and New Zealand do, at 30s to 365. Adelaide flour, ex store is worth 275. Shipping. Tenneriffe, May 29. The New Zealand Shipping Company’s s.s. Eimutaka sailed this morning for New Zealand vi& the Cape of Good Hope. [Special to thb Fbess Association.] London, May 28. The New Zealand loan of one million and a-balf will be placed in the market to-morrow. Captain Brennan, of Victoria, the inventor of the torpedo bearing bis name has received a large amount from the I English Government for his patent rights. The New Zealand loan is already quoted at a premium of one and a half per cent. It is expected that tbe average will be about £99. The several Agents-Oeneral and Sir Chas. Tapper, High Commissioner for Canada, are urging upon the Government the exemption of colonial securities from stamp duty. The Colonial Institute are also urging upon the Government the necessity of granting more favorable concessions in regard to the importation of colonial wines.
