WAIMATE COUNTY COUNCIL.

At the monthly meeting on 27th inst. the balance-sheets for the year and the half-year were adopted. The following resolutions, as well as a number of minor ones were carried :

“That with the view of removing any ambiguity as to the authority of the Poundkeeper to impound cattle off the public roads, this Council now confer that authority upon the Foundkeeper, as per clause 17 of the Impounding Act 1884.”

“ That a Committee, consisting of auy three members of this Council, be appointed to take any action they may consider desirable to give effect to the provisions of the Impounding Act 1884.” “That the Chairman examine the titles in the possession of the Council for lands purchased for roads or taken in lien of diverted lines, so as to satisfy the Council, that the titles are correct, and that the Council have in possession all such titles ”

The Council then, in Committee, considered the application for the office of Overseer of County Eoads and Works. There were 41 applicants, and the names of Messrs W. J. Black, of Waimate, J. S. Bruce, of Baloairn, B. Pearce, of Ashburton, and B. B. Bristed, Oamaro, were selected for further consideration. It was decided to hold a special meeting on June 5, to appoint one of these. Tenders were accepted as follows : Contract No. 678 (four tenders)—James Trist, £2BB 15s Bd. Contract No. 579 (four tenders) —T. Kerr, £52. Contract No. 680 (three tenders) — Clark Bros., £l7 10s. Contract 581 (five tenders) —T. W. Crone, £29 11s BJ. after passing accounts, the Council adjourned.
