GERALDINE.
On Monday evening last, after the Presbyterian Soiree and meeting, a ball was held in the Oddfellow’s Hal), Geraldine, which was largely all enjoying themselves till near daylight on the following morning.
The Oddfellows of Geraldine are fast becoming aware of the fact of the inadequacy of their hall in regard to space, and are now going in for extending it the full length of the section in the front, and the building of a spacious stage at the back. The Volunteers are also contemplating the erection of a Volunteer hall, similar to the one at Tomuka. The Oddfellows must be op and doing.
On Monday evening last the whole force of the Geraldine Rifle Volunteers, with the exception of three, assembled in the Oddfellows’ Hall, Geraldine, for the purpose of drill, by the Government drill instructor Jones, of Wellington. He expressed himself agreeably surprised at the manner in which the corps wont through the manoeuvres, as he expected to find raw recruits. The creditable manner in which the men acquitted themselves was mainly through instruction they had received at the hands of two individuals who came forward to assist in the Volunteer movement in Geraldine.
