[3y Telegraph.] (Per s.b. Eingarooma at the Bluff.) [Special to tue Melbourne “ Age.”] London, June 17. The private opinion both of the Earl of Carnarvon and Lord Eosebery is that war is inevitable between France and England unless the Eecidiviste Bill is abandoned. They are unable, however, to convince Earl Derby, Secretary of State for the Colonies, of the gravity of the situation. June 20. The Northern Territory Land Company, the prospectus of which was recently issued, is now being floated. The shares are it is stated being applied for freely. The proposed capital is £1,000,000. June 22. Earl Rosebery has postponed his motion in the House of Lords for the production of official papers relative to the reoidiviste question until the 14th July. Earl Derby, speaking at a banquet given yesterday to Mr Thomas Archer, late Agent-General for Queensland, stated that Mr Mcllwraith, ex-Premier of that colony, had promised to support any measures which the Australasian colonies might find it necessary to pass relative to excluding French criminals from Australia. Representatives of the Australian colonies in England have arranged to give a banquet to the Marquis of Normanby on July 9.
