He states that although by an unexpected combination, a vote of want of confidence was passed in tbe Government yet his confident belief is that the vote does not represent tbe opinion of: the oonntry. Charge Against a Resident Magistrate* .
The Commission of Enquiry into Ife# charge preferred by Sergt-Major Boiler against Mr Turnbull, E M., has concluded taking evidence, and the Commissioners leave for Wellington this' afternoon. The charge was drunkenness in public and private places, and a large number of witnesses were examined on both sides. The Commissioners will forward their report to the Governor. The enquiry was held in private. Compulsory Education, Dunedin, June 19. At the City Police Court to-day, one of tho Dunedin School Committees sought to enforce the compulsory clauses of the Act, but tbe prosecution practically broke down, owing to thedifficulties of establishing the technical, proofs required by the Education Act.
