Wellington, June 18. In the Legislative Council this after, noon,the Speaker announced that His Excellency would be pleased to receive the Address in Reply at 3 o’clock. Several orders of the day appearing on to-day’s Order Paper, were discharged, and the sitting was then suspended, to enable tbe Speaker to wait on His Excellency. The Council resumed at 3,10 p.tn., when the Speaker announced that His Excellency had been pleased to receive the Address in Reply. On the motion of the Hon Mr Oliver, the Council then adjourned until Friday, at 2.30 p.m. There is soma talk of Sir Julius Vogel standing for a Wellington constituency, probably that of To Aro. Mr C. B. Izard, solicitor, has decided to stand for Foxton. Thames, June 18. Matters political are warming up here consequent upon the dissolution. For the Borough quite a number of candidates are expected, including Messrs Speight, Fraser, Bagnall, Kilgour, McGowan, and McCullough, all local men. The fight will really lie between the two firstnamed, but no one has announced himself as yet. For Coromandel, Mr Cadman is fully expected to have a walk-over. Wanganui, June 18, Messrs Watt, Ballance and Hutchison are announced for the town electorate, Messrs Bryoo, Morgan and Colonel McDonnell for Waitotara. Hokitika, June 18. Large requisitions are being got up throughout the district to Mr John Sevan, of the firm of Pollock and Sevan, of this town, to stand in the Liberal interest at the forthcoming election to the House of Representatives. Christchurch, June 18, Mr Wilfred Badger, barrister, comes forward for Stanmore, and Mr Garrick, of Garrick and Cowlishaw, for St. Albans. Mr Chrystall is also spoken of for Stanmore. Mr S. E. Webb announces himself for Lyttelton. Oamaku, June 18. It is rumoured here that Mr Shriraski will not stand for Oamaru should Mr

Hislopcome forward, and it is said that this is likely to eventuate. Dunedin, June 18, There is likely to be a keen contest for Dunedin East at the approaching genera! election, Mr Green the present member, is seeking re-election. Captain Baldwin is likely to stand, and Mr T. C. Farnie, Vice-President of the Trades and Labor Council will contest the seat in the Opposition interest. A large deputation waited on Mr J. B. Thomson, ex-Mayor, asking him to come forward, and he is likely to consent. Mr J. S. Mackenzie will contest Mount Ida, and the Hon G. Maolean is stated as likely to stand for Palmerston against the present member.
