MAGISTERIAL.
TIMAEU—THIS DAY. (Before F. LeCren Esq., and His Worship the Mayor.) DRUNK WHILE DRIVING. A first offender, charged with being drunk while in charge of two horses and a buggy, in the Main North road on 26th inst., and with resisting a constable in the execution of his duty, was fined 40s and costs 10s. BREACHES OR THE DOG REGISTRATION ACT. The following persons were chargedwith having unregistered dogs, after the time prescribed for registering them J. Bowes, Thomas D. Olapham, James Warden, Ralph Simpson junr., one dog each; James Newton senr. (3 dogs), and H. Thornton (5 dogs). Newton was fined 10s and costs; Bowes and Warden, 5s and costs; and the cases against Clapbam, Simpson and Thornton were withdrawn. INSANE THROUGH DEINK. W. F. Finn was charged on remand from Waimate with being insane from drink. Dr Drew having certified to his recovery, he was dismissed on payment of 10s 6d, cost of his mainteance. HORSE AT LARGE. Geo Taylor was charged with having a horse at large in North street. Constable Phillips proved the offence, but Defendant positively swore that the constable took the horse out of his paddock. He was unable to disprove the statement of the constable, however, viz., that the horse ran into the paddock
after he (the constable) had found it in the road. The Bench were at first about to dismiss the case, but Inspector Broham protested very strongly against such a course, and after examining the defendant on oath, the Bench fined him 5s and costs cows at large. Isaac Fonseca, for having cows at large on the Wai-iti road on 9th inst., was fined 5s and costs.
