THIS DAT. [Received Jan. 12,1884,1.10, p.m.] The New Zealand Loan. London, Jan. 11. Tenders for the New Zealand loan, of one million sterling, bearing interest at rate of 4 per cent, were opened to-day. The total amount offered was found to be five millions. Tenders at £IOO 6s will receive 64 per cent of the allotment, and those above that price will receive in full. The minimnm fixed was £9B 10s. The Chinese Mean Business. Hong Kong, Jan. U. Le Hung Chang, Viceroy of Chios, has arrived at Oanton and officially notified the foreign consuls that the approaches to the Fort of Canton are to be forthwith blocaded by torpedoes, bat that a channel of ninety feet wide will be left for the passage of vessels along the river. The Wine Trade. London, Jan. 11, The Hon. Mr Childers, Chancellor of the Exchequer, has informed the Colonial Agents-Genersl, that the concession recently mode to Spain in regard to dnties on wine will be extended to the colonies. The commnnication states that the limit of thirty degrees of spirit strength must not be exceeded, but adds that Mr Childers will take into consideration the proposal of the Agents-General that a sliding scale of duties should be adopted.
