(Fbb Pbkbs Association.) THIi~DA7. H-M-S- EspiegleTauranga, Jan. 7. H.M.S. Espiegle sailed for Lyttelton at 9 a.m. Captain Bridge and the officers came back from the Hot Lakes on Saturday evening. It is reported that the Governor and suite will proceed to the Sounds by the Espiegle. Sudden and Painful Death. Dunedin, Jan. 27. A melancholy fatality occurred at nine o’clock last night. Mr Jacob Monteith, a well-known and highly respectable chemist carrying on business in the city, was supplying some medicine to a customer when he complained of being seized with a sudden pain. He retired for a moment, and not reappearing search was made. He was found in the yard vomiting and in great pain. He was removed and medical aid sent for, but Mr Monteith died in a few miuntes. The cause of death is at present unknown, but a post mortem will be made to-day.
