Sailed, this afternoon—the steamship Zealandia for Auckland, and the steamship Wakatipu for Wellington. The former takes specie valued at £50,500 for San Francisco. Not Dead Tet, Melbouene, Deo. 6. It is now known that Martin Weiberg the Avoca gold robber, was not drowned at Waratah Bay, as reported a few weeks ago, but is alive, and was a passenger to England by the steamship Sorata, which left here on the Ist inst. WoolThe New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, at their wool sale to-day, offered 4200 bales; 3500 bales were sold at excellent prices, fine sorts being in very good demand. There was a good attendance of Home and foreign buyers, and good competition was experienced, prices being firmly maintained. [Special to Press Association.] London, Dec. 5. At the opening of the Calcutta Exhibition his Excellency the Marquis of Ripon expressed a hope that the Exhibition would tend to promote the establishment of a large trade between India and Australasia. The weather was wet, and the ceremony generally proved a failure. Transports capable of embarking 12,000 troops have been ordered by the French Admiralty to rendezvous at Algiers. The Chinese Admiral has notified foreigners inCanton that war is imminent, and has warned them to preserve a strict neutrality. The chiefs on the British reserve in Zululand are clamouring for Cetewayo’s removal. All the tribes of the Southern Soudan have now risen in rebellion. Mr W. A. Long, the well-known colonial sporting man, has offered to back Trickett, Edwards, and Rush against Hanlon for £loooa-side.
