The Australian Mutual Provident Society intend abolishing the present system of agencies and establishing branch offices under the management of gentlemen who have received their training at headquarters, Business under the new system will be begun in Auckland, Christchurch, and Dunedin with the new year. The agents who now retire from taking an active part in the business will receive substantial recognition for their services from the directors.

At the first meeting of the Mackenzie County Council on Monday at Burke’s Pass, Mr McGregor was elected Chairman, and Mr Marchant appointed Clerk, Treasurer, and Engineer. It was resolved that Mr Clulee should bo employed to report upon financial matters, as between the new county and the Geraldine Council. Mr W. Tosswill was appointed solicitor to the Council.
