S. C. Times Office, Saturday Afternoon. Messrs Eobt. Wilkin and Co. report for the week ended Friday, 30th November, 1883, as follows. jj orses _q'he market is dull, there being very little enquiry with few offering. Farmers and others have their requirements made up for the present, which accounts to a great extent for the dullness of the horse trade. Both from Dunedin and Christchurch they hear of a few good draughts being shipped to the other colonies and they feel sure the demand, for good draught especially, and also light stock will increase. Cattle—Prime beef may be quoted at 255, medium 20s per lOOlbs. _ Beef ifc becoming every day more plentiful, and will ere long, suffer a slight decline; but they do not expect to see it so low as previous years. At quotations during the week they have sold several lots. Stores —The great growth of feed during the past fortnight has caused a better demand. For two and thrce-year-old steers and heifers there are plenty of buyers, at prices ruling from £4 10s no to £6, according to size and condition. 22 to 18-months’ old stock, without quoting any advance in price, are selling better than they were some time back. Privately, through the week they sold the following—Bs head two and three-year-old steers at £4 15s ;50 head bullocks, grand line (nearly fat), at a very satisfactory price. Sheep—The market is short supplied with prime mutton. They sold privately a small lot at Ha 6d, nice quality, Stores— There is a good demand, and all that find their way into the market are picked _ up readily. Shearing now being in full swing, very few are changing hands just yet, Skins—At their usual fortnightly sale, held at their rooms on Wednesday last, a very light catalogue came forward. The attendance of buyers being small, competition was dull, consequently a reduction upon the late values of fully 6d to 9d per skin had to be submitted to.
