Intelligence is to hand from Khartoum, a largo town in Upper Nubia, that El Mahdi, the false prophet, with a great following, is now in close proximity to the place, and has stopped all supplies from entering. It is feared that the rebels are about to attack the town and population, numbering nearly fifty thousand, are panic-stricken, hundreds having already fled from their homes.
