Attention is drawn to a new advertisement of properties for sale by Mr K. Sando. Mr I. J. Bradley yesterday espying a floating object in the water about a mile out to sea, put off in bis boat, and found it to be a jetty pile, which had by some means got adrift, probably from Oamaru. Mr Bradley immediately took the huge waif in tow and dragged it ashore. The Timaru Boating Club’s boathouse is worth inspection since it has been renovated by Mr Bradley, the Club’s custodian. New racks and other conveniences have been supplied, the shed made weather-tight, and a spacious dressing room added, with lockers, for the use of members. The Salvation Army (says the “ Newcastle Herald ”) recently made one convert of an extremely substantial character, Wilholding names, we are in a position to say that a well-known Cook’a-hill resident lately attracted to the “ ranks ’’ has during the week made over a portion of his property, consisting of four or five cottages, land &0., for the benefit of the Army, and purposes devoting himself for the future to religious service. The “ Tablet ” in referring to the action of the Education Board in dividing the Dunedin School district into five districts, contrives to give a clever slap at the Secular Act“ Whatever the Committee may be or whomsoever they may represent, we are 'excusable in thinking that they are goed enough to spend the money snatched from us Catholics, and sufficiently upright and well qualified to manage schools out of which nothing but what is evil may be expected to arise. A remarkable arrangement of scenery is contrived in a drama lately played at Paris, In one scene four or live transformations occur. First the roof of a house is visible, then a garret in which a murder is committed. The ground floor rooms are next disclosed, then the cellar in which the assassin secretes himself for a time, and finally the tunnel in which ho subsequently takes refuge. Hero he is seen and captured owing to the electric light reflected from a railway station close by.
