The s.s. Taiaroa w : 'l leave for Lyttelton on Tuesday next, at 5 p.m. There will be no steamer to Dunedin on Tuesday. The Express train from the South has been stopped by a flooding of the line nearOtaio. Ine trrm on reaching Makikiki, wn rrable to proceed further, and on receipt of a telegram to that effect Mr Jones, District Stationmaster, despatched a special txrin to the scene of the obstruction, and is meanwhile awaiting information. It is rumoured in Town that the bridge over the OtrV river has been carried away but the rumour requires confirmation. The District Court has been occupied during a considerable portion of the day with a most tiresome case, which, however, presents some peculiar features. Among the parties interested —the plaintiff is absent from the colony—a solicitor, a landagent, a debtor, and the defendants being examined, appear to have forgotten all the circumstances surrounding a bill of sale, and an assignment thereof. Money has changed hands, understandings have been arrived at, interviews have taken place between the parties, and yet everything appears to have slipped from everybody’s reco r ection. Those who heard the case are in a state of bewilderment and how His Honor wiU be able to adjudicate in the matter, is quite beyond everybody’s comprehenslon. ..
