A DASTARDLY ACT.

A suspicions circumstance came under our notice this morning. A reaper and binder of Messrs Held and Gray’s, intended for exhibition at the forthcoming show, arrived here yesterday from the factory in Dunedin. It was left in a truck near the landing service shed all night, and this morning when the officials and others went to unpack it they found some of the woodwork had been bnrnt away, and a considerable portion charred; while, in various parts where fire would readily catch, there had been placed quantities of spnnyarn nnstranded and saturated with kerosene. It was evident from the whole appearance of things, that a most deliberate attempt had been made to destroy the machine and render it unfit for show. As in most cases of the kind, the prospect of ever identifying the perpetrator of the crime is a very remote one.
