The Marino Department received the folowing telegram from the Harbor, master, at Manakan, South Head : “Beacons Manakan harbor are adjusted. In lieu bearing N. E. by N. adg N. magnetic to lead course of south channel to clear Heron spit. Semaphore arms will be used for piloting vessels out of the harbor when required; in any channel will still be used when necessary. Supreme Court* Wanganui, April 28. _ Jowett, for indecent assault, was this morning sentenced to seven years with hard labor, and 25 lashes with the cat. Thomas, for manslaughter, was sentenced to one month, without hard labor. The case against Jenkins, for assault with intent, is now proceeding. ShippingChristchurch, April 27. Arrived —Penguin, from Manakan and way ports. The Minister of LandsMr Eolleston, Minister of Lands arrived this morning in the Penguin. He proposes remaining in Christchurch till Tuesday morning, when he will leave for the South. The occasion of his first visit is merely private and departmental business. Attempted SuicideDunedin, April 28. > David Kiske attempted to commit suicide by cutting his throat with a knife at Waihola. The wound is not dangerous.
