ASHBURTON RACES. [By Telegraph.] Ashburton, April 18; The weather for the Ashburton Autumn Meeting to-day was cold and damp. It rained heavily in the morning but cleared up at noon. The following are the results: — Handicap Hurdles, 40 so vs, 2 miles. Mr Butler’s Quamby, list 9lbs ... 1 Young Diomedes, Bst 7lbs ... ... 2 Captain, 9st Ub ... 3 Levant, Barbary, and Phyohe also ran. Won easily. Captain was the favorite at 3 to 10. Katerfelto was scratched. Time—4min I9£sec. District Welter Handicap, of 30 sovs; one mile and a-half. Nimrod ... ... ... 1 Idalia 2 Katerfelto ... 3 Shepherdess and Trixie also ran. It was a close race. Katerfelto led till the straight was reached, when Derritt brought Nimrod up and won by a short half length from Idalia, Katerfelto a length behind. Time—2min. 68|secs. AUTUMN HANDICAP. > , Sou’wester... ... ... 1 Trumpeter ... ... ... 2 Marchioness Neil 3 Luna was scratched. Sdu-wester was a strong favorite and won the race easily. Time—3min 18 l-saecs.
