LATE BRITISH AND FOREIGN NEWS.
The reported action of the Queensland Government in taking possession of New Guinea has caused great annoyance to a large and influential party in the House of Commons, and strong pressure is being brought to bear upon Government to induce it to repudiate the action of Governor Kennedy. The “ Standard ” states that England has annexed largo tracts of country in the vicinity of Siberia. The' Leaguers are becoming alarmed at the hostility shown by the American Press, and are moderating their threats of using dynamite. Egan, the Treasurer of the Irish Land League, intends to permanently reside in America,
The “ Times ” admires the decision of the Queensland Government in annexing New Guinea, though it is certain to provoke considerable discussion in the House of Commons, The Press generally disapproves of the annexation.
