The Committee desire to call special attention to the excellence of the Universal Feeding Leather Working Machine. “ t Singer Manufacturing Co.—For the Best Family Sewing Machine, including variety of work, excellence of workmanship and material, simplicity of construction and durability, a First Order of Merit, withjCertificate of Gold Medal. “ Davis Sewing Machine Co. —For their Family Sewing Machine, for its variety of work, excellence of workmanship and material, a Silver Medal and First Ordef of Merit. In. arriving at the merits of this machine as compared with the one exhibited by the Singer Company, the jury ihave had considerable difficulty in arrivjng at their decision, and it will be satisfactory to the public to know that the awards have been given in the above order after long discussion by a majority of two to one.” OTHER EXHIBITS EXAMINED, Thb Committee have also examined the, following Machines:—The Household, the Bradbury, the Howe, and the Wheeler and Wilson, but beyond possessing some novelties in construction, they have no special points to, entitle them to leading placed in this report:— W. Dear Bib, — I am directed by the Committee! of Judging and Awards acknowledge your letter of the 16th inst., and toj inform you that when the Davis’ Sewing Machine Company’s protest was investigated by the Committee, it was decided to refer the matter back to the Jurors of Section YIL, asking whether they would kindly reconsider their decision and inform them (the Committee) at an early opportunity whether their d jcision given—of a First Order of Merit, Silver. Medal - could be altered to a recoi imendation of certificate of Gold Medal, the reply was that, after due considerat on, they could see no reason for altering the award.
