Hannah Hall and James members of the Society of Friends, held an evangelistic service last evening at the Congregational Church. The building was crow.’ed by a most attentive audience, and on the platform with the evangelists were the ministers of the various denominations in town. The services were of a simple and practical kind, the addresses being earnest. Hannah Hall comes from Ohio (U.8.A.), and J. Cotton, from Tasmania, and they follow the dictates of what they conceive to be a divine voice bidding them go forth to proclaim the Gospel. They have visited Palestine, India, and many other interesting lands, and have been well received everywhere. Those who did not know anying of the Quaker profession could not fail to note the calm earnestness, the liberal spirit, and the simple dignity which invariably characterise the Friends. Quaint as the customs of the Friends are, one can but admire the consistency of their lives, and the earnestness of their purpose.
