The s.s. Waitaki came alongside the wharf this morning, to .discharge, bat so heavy was the swell that it was deemed prudent tc sheer off to the mooring ground inside the breakwater. The schooner Endeavor parted a coir hawser, and in consequence, was moored out also. The Ganymede is prevented by the strength of the swell, from coming alongside to-day as was intended. This shows how deceptive is the appearance of the Timaru waters, the day being apparently calm and fine.

The following business was disposed of at the R.M. Court after, the adjournment : - Dawson v. Gibson and Smith, claim £9 6s Bd, for loss sustained through breach of contract. Judgment was given for defendants for amount claimed, withcosts £ll3s. In the following cases, in which plaintiffs claimed witnesses expenses, judgment was given for plaintiffs with cost?. J. G. McKay v. Cork (as trustee), claim £6 16s. Judgment for £4 4s. Orton v, same, claim £3 3s. Bishop y. same, claim £1 4s. Snnnaway v. Shears and Co, claim £1 6s, for work and labor done. The plaintiff being confined to his bed by injuries, the case was adjourned by the Court for 14 days. The patriotic Archbishop of Cashel, at a meeting in the county of Limerick lately, dwelt upon the gross injustice of sending Englishmen and Scotchmen to govern Ireland, of (J yvhich most of them were quite ignorant. His Grace pointed out that Ireland has now an English Lord Lieutenant, an English Chief Secretary, a Scotch Undersecretary, and an English AssistantSecretary. “ France,” said the Archbishop, “is governed by Frenchmen, Spain by Spaniards, England by Englishmen, and even Poland by Poles, and why should not Ireland be governed by Irishmen ?” This is honest and true statesmanship, worthy of the great prelate who spoke the vtords.
