The Manager of the Farmers’ Co-opera-tive Association, has requested us to point out an error, which crept into a telegram from Christchurch. It was reported that the Canterbury Farmers’ Co-operative Association had made a profit of £l7O 12s 4d for the past half year. The fact is, the New Zealand Farmers’ Co-operative Association the head office of which, is in Christchurch, have made this profit, not the Canterbury Farmers’ Association, the office of which is in Timaru.

H.M.S. Nelson is anchored off Kawau and the officers are enjoying a few days shooting. Mr Bryce has telegraphed to Colonel Scratchley asking that officer to visit the colony and report upon the defence of our ports.

The gas is manufactured out of air, water, and ordinary beef or mutton fat. Ha has had it burning in his private house for twelve months. The light is pure, clear, and white, and more powerful than that of Dunedin gas. It has no smell. The cost is very small, running from Is 3d to 2s per thousand feet.

The weekly session of the English Lodge Victory, No. 42, 1.0.G.T., was held last evening at the Foresters’ Hall. The chair was taken by Bro. Thomas Tichbon, W.O.T. One candidate was proposed for membership, and one initiated. After a short recess, the remainder of the evening was spent in the delivery of recitations, readings, &c., to which many present contribated. The accompaniments to the singing were played by the organist, Sister Jane Jones. The Lodge closed at the usual hour.
