Cable Charges
Melbourne Jan 4.
The “Argus” to-day publishes , a leading article on the subject of the cable tariff between Australia and New Zealand. It approves of the action ;of the Melbourne Chamber of Coramcroejin endeavoring to obtain a reduction of rates on the New Zealand cable, and condemns the existing anomaly under which the tariff is greater from than it is to Australia. The ‘i Argus ” proposes that the colonies should act jointly-to increase the subsidy paid to the Eastern Extension Telegraph Company, with a view to obtaining a reduction of tho tariff.
