The Timaru Boating Club hold a series of pair-oar races on the 21st last. Six births, four marriages, and four deaths were registered at the Temuka office last month.

; The Secretary to the S. C. Caledonian Society requests that all claims against the Society be sent in to him, in detail, by Saturday next’ The “Guardian" of yesterday states that on Tuesday and Wednesday five deaths from dysentery were registered in Ashburton. This disease occasioned a good many deaths here last summer. The Bohemians had a fair house at the Theatre last night, and succeeded in thoroughly amusing their audience. A long bill of dramatic and musical pieces was gone through with great spirit. Good prospects are attracting attention to tbe reefs at Cascade Creek (Duller river Waimangaroa and Mokihinui; Many applications for leases have been made, and interests are changing hands at good prices.

Some heavy scoring was made in a cricket match at. Christchurch on Monday and Tuesday. The match was Wanderers v, Phconix, and the former stayed in all Monday and scored 344 for 7 wickets, and yesterday added 75 more before all were disposed of. The Phcenix team then went in and for six wickets got 201. The match was then drawn.

Gibson’s starch and cornflour factory at Dunedin, was burned down yesterday. The fire burned very fiercely ; its origin is unknown. The machinery and plant were in. sured in the South British for £BOO, but Gibson estimates his loss at £I2OO over that sum. The building was insured for £SOO in the Standard. A fire at Cromwell destroyed a baker’s shop, which was insured with stock in the National for £6OO.

An impudent robbery was committed on New Year’s morning at Watson’s Hotel, Dunedin. A man went into the room of a boarder, who was asleep, and stole his watch and money, and then went into another room and coolly ransacked the pockets of the occupant, a sea captain. The latter awoke and scudded after the thief under bare poles, but the thief got away. He was afterwards caught and was yesterday committed for trial.

The four-oar outrigger race of the Lyttelton, regatta was pulled last evening, the Kaiapoi boat beating Lyttelton, Christchurch,. and Dunedin crews.- The Lyttelton boat beat Christchurch and Dunedin in the four-par outrigger race. At the Supreme Court at Christchurch yesterday, the following,cases were .;disposed of : —Morgan Harped, larceny, four years’ penal servitude ; Frederick Hunter, breach of the Marriage Act, six day's and a £lO fine; William Sutton, indecent assault', twelve months; Daul/ Mark,-' receiving stolen property, eighteen months'; Mathew Keen, larceny, two years ;' John horse stealing, Was Acquitted, the "Crown Prosecutor declining to lead any'evidence ; no true bill was ’ found' ; against Alex; Macmillan, for embezzlement; Charters got four years’ penal 'servitude for embezzlement and four years for forgery, the sentences to bo cumulative.
